Preparatory department for foreign citizens

Welcome to the Preparatory Department for Foreign Citizens of the Saint Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design.

The main goal of the Preparatory department for foreign citizens is to help foreign students who don’t speak Russian or have a low level of Russian language proficiency to master the essential training programmes in Russian.

In accordance with said objective, the Preparatory department for foreign citizens performs the following functions:

  • Creates advertising information to involve students in training programmes;
  • Helps foreign students adapt before the start of and during the studies;
  • Provides students with approved curriculums, training programmes and teaching materials for further general educational programmes;
  • Prepares class schedules for general educational programmes based on the curriculums;
  • Provides training in accordance with the schedule.

The training is imparted in either an attendance-based or remote learning manner.

On-campus students are provided with dormitory places.

In order to study at the Preparatory department one must have complete secondary education or secondary vocational education demonstrated by a relevant document. The training is carried out in groups of 5 to 15 people. More than 50% of the time is given to the Russian language acquisition. The course is taught in Russian.

Foreign students who have successfully completed further training programmes and passed the final assessment are given Certificate of completion of the Preparatory department of the Saint Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design.

Students who have not completed further training programmes are given a certificate of the standard form of the covered disciplines and their amount on the basis of a written statement.

Training period: October 2022 - August 2023.

In the academic year 2022-2023 admission is conducted for extra-budgetary places (under the contract on the provision of fee-based educational services) and for places funded from the budget allocations of the federal budget.

You can submit your documents for remote studies from March 1st 2022 until September 30th 2022.

You can submit your documents to study in an attendance-based manner from March 1st 2022 until July 31st 2022.

Requirements for remote studies at the Preparatory department for foreign citizens:

  1. Fill in the application form;
  2. Scans of all the pages of your national passport along with a notarised translation into Russian.
    Your passport must be valid for at least 18 months at the beginning of your studies;
  3. Forward the filled in application form along with the scans to poig@sutd.ru;
  4. In a follow-up email you will receive the Contract of the Preparatory department for foreign citizens;
  5. Forward a scan of the signed contract to poig@sutd.ru.

Requirements for attendance-based studies at the Preparatory department for foreign citizens:

  1. Fill in the application form;
  2. Scans of all the pages of your national passport along with a notarised translation into Russian.
    Your passport must be valid for at least 18 months at the beginning of your studies;
  3. Forward the filled in application form along with the scans to poig@sutd.ru;
  4. In a follow-up email you will receive the Contract of the Preparatory department for foreign citizens;
  5. Forward a scan of the signed contract to poig@sutd.ru.
  6. Within 30-40 days you will receive an invitation letter by email;
  7. Upon receiving the invitation letter, contact the embassy or the consulate of the Russian Federation in your country in order to obtain a student visa;
  8. Arrive in Saint Petersburg before October 4th with the original copies of the required documents.

Admission is exclusively offered to applicants approved by the management of the Preparatory department for foreign citizens.

On the day of the arrival in Saint Petersburg applicants must report to the Preparatory department office at 54 Sadovaya street, office 407 with the following documents (if your arrival falls on a weekend day, you must show up the following Monday):

  • national passport;
  • notarised translation into Russian of the national passport;
  • migration card (issued by an immigration officer at customs);
  • relevant medical certificate stating that the applicant doesn’t have any conditions that could potentially prevent them from staying and/or studying in the Russian Federation (not older than 3 months) and a vaccination certificate (for those in need of a room in a student residence);
  • notarised translation into Russian of the medical certificate and the vaccination certificate (for those in need of a room in a student residence);
  • 6 photographs (3х4 cm).

All foreign citizens who come to the Russian Federation with a view to studying must have insurance (obtained in Registration and Visa department of the StPSUITD).

Potential expenses on arrival in Saint Petersburg:

  • compulsory health insurance;
  • additional healthcare services;
  • necessary handbooks.
