Preparatory department for foreign citizens

Welcome to the Preparatory department for foreign citizens of the Saint Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design.

The main goal of the Preparatory department for foreign citizens is to help foreign students who don’t speak Russian or have a low level of the Russian language proficiency to master the main educational programs in Russian.

All students of the Preparatory department are provided with rooms in students’ dormitories.

In order to study at the Preparatory department one must have complete secondary education or secondary vocational education demonstrated by a relevant document. The training is carried out in groups of 5 to 15 people.

Foreign students who have successfully completed the foundation year and passed the final assessment are given the Certificate of completion of the Preparatory department for foreign citizens of the Saint Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design.

Students who have not completed the foundation year successfully are given a standard certificate with the list of the disciplines covered as well as the academic hours for each discipline.

In the academic year 2024-2025 admission is conducted for extra-budgetary places (under the contract of the provision of fee-based educational services) and for places funded from the budget allocations of the federal budget within the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation.

Classes are held in person and online. More than 50% of the time is given to the Russian language training. The course is taught in Russian.

You can submit your documents for online training from March 1st, 2024, until September 30th, 2024.

You can submit your documents to study in person from March 1st, 2024, until July 31st, 2024.

Requirements for online training at the Preparatory department for foreign citizens:

  1. Download the application form, fill it out, sign and scan it.
  2. Scan your personal identification document along with a notarised translation into Russian (all pages).
    Your passport must be valid for at least 18 months at the beginning of your studies.
  3. Scan your high school diploma, your secondary vocational education diploma along with the diploma supplement (if so provided by law of the state where the diploma is issued) or your higher education diploma along with the supplement.
    All scans must be clear and in high resolution. Blurry scans as well as scans with essential parts of the document missing are not permitted. Each document must be submitted as a separate file with the name corresponding to its content.
  4. Forward the scans of the documents and the application form to the email poig@sutd.ru.
  5. In a follow-up email you will receive the contract of the Preparatory department for foreign citizens. You must print out the contract, sign it and scan the signed version.
  6. Forward the scan of the signed contract topoig@sutd.ru.

Requirements for in person training at the Preparatory department for foreign citizens:

  1. Download the application form, fill in the application form, sign it and scan it.
  2. Scan your personal identification document along with a notarised translation into Russian (all pages).
    Your passport must be valid for at least 18 months at the beginning of your studies.
  3. Scan your high school diploma, your secondary vocational education diploma along with the diploma supplement (if so provided by law of the state where the diploma is issued) or your higher education diploma along with the supplement.
  4. Scan a relevant medical certificate that states that you don’t have any conditions that could potentially prevent you from staying and/or studying in the Russian Federation, including a psychiatric and a narcologist’s report.
    All scans must be clear and in high resolution. Blurry scans as well as scans with essential parts of the document missing are not permitted. Each document must be submitted as a separate file with the name corresponding to its content.
  5. Forward the scans of all the documents and the application form to the email poig@sutd.ru.
  6. In a follow-up email you will receive the contract of the Preparatory department for foreign citizens. You must print out the contract, sign it and scan the signed version.
  7. Forward the scan of the signed contract topoig@sutd.ru.
  8. Make an advance payment in accordance with the contract.
  9. Within 30-40 days you will receive an invitation letter by email.
  10. Upon receiving the invitation letter, contact the embassy or the consulate of the Russian Federation in your country in order to obtain a student visa.
  11. Arrive in Saint Petersburg with the original copies of the required documents not later than October 1st, 2024.

Admission is exclusively offered to applicants approved by the management of the Preparatory department for foreign citizens, provided the restrictions that prohibit entry into the Russian Federation are lifted. Invitations are not issued to applicants of the main educational programs and/or for purposes other than education at the Preparatory department.

On the first working day upon arrival in Saint Petersburg applicants must report to the Preparatory department office at 54 Sadovaya street, office 407 with the following documents (if your arrival falls on a weekend day, you must show up the following Monday):

  • national passport;
  • notarised translation into Russian of the national passport;
  • migration card (issued by an immigration officer at customs);
  • relevant medical certificate stating that the applicant doesn’t have any conditions that could potentially prevent them from staying and/or studying in the Russian Federation (not older than 3 months) and a vaccination certificate (for those in need of a room in a students’ dormitory);
  • notarised translation into Russian of the medical certificate and the vaccination certificate (for those in need of a room in a students’ dormitory);
  • 6 photographs (3×4 cm).

All foreign citizens who come to the Russian Federation to study must be insured (medical insurance policy is obtained in the visa and registration department of the SPbSUITD).

Potential expenses on arrival in Saint Petersburg:

As of 29.12.2021 by the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation all foreigners staying in Russia for more than 90 days must go through mandatory health examination and fingerprinting within 90 days after their arrival in Russia. Where it can be done in Saint Petersburg — «Единый центр документов» located at 10-12 Krasnogo Tekstilschika street, building «B», entrance № 2, 4th floor.
